One of the most pressing matters of our time is to maintain natural resources and to avoid environmental pollution in future. Sensible environmental protection nowadays is a main condition for the continuing success of a company. The aim to develop recyclable products has even reached more significance by new legal regulations.
According to this, the directive 2000/53/EC of the European Parliament and the European Council of 2000-09-18 on end-of life vehicles is containing rules for car manufacturers and their suppliers on abdication of the heavy metalls lead, cadmium, mercury and chromium (IV). Since July 2006 the ban on materials like lead, cadmium, chromium, mercury and bromine flame redardants will become effective for new electrical equipment and electronic devices. The legal base for that is the 2002/95/EC directive of the European Parliament and the European Council of 2003-01-27 on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (RoHS). The 2002/96/EC directive of the European Parliament and the European Council of 2003-01-27 on waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) is containing basic principles for avoidance, for utilisation and for the safe disposal of waste as well as principles for advancement of other recycling forms. Also, recycling quota has been laid down in the directive.
Big efforts have been made within the Oshino group in order to meet these regulations. Starting from product design, handling and usage up to demounting, recycling of electrical equipment and electronic devices, their components and materials. In the Automotive business section all materials used in vehicle construction are being filed and administrated by means of the International Material Data System (IMDS). This is the only way for the car manufacturer and therefore also the supplier to comply with the imposed national and international norms, standards, laws and regulations.
